Australian Jewish leaders were dinner guests of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at The Lodge last night…

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd

The President of the ECAJ today welcomed the initiative of the Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs in inviting a group of Jewish leaders together with Members of Parliament Michael Danby and Mark Dreyfus QC, to the Lodge for discussions over dinner.

Robert Goot, the president of  The Executive Council of Australian Jewry said: “The dinner was an important opportunity for those present to engage in a frank, friendly and constructive exchange. It was quite clear to all present that the Prime Minister and his Government remain fundamentally committed to and supportive of  Israel and the special relationship between Israel and Australia”.

“The meeting was both welcome and timely and the Prime Minister’s and Foreign Minister’s positive remarks on a number of new initiatives, gives us great confidence that the relationship between the Jewish community and the Government will continue to be close and co-operative as we focus on the future”, Mr Goot added.

J-Wire understands arrangements for the dinner were underway before the flotilla set sail for Gaza.
