The Jewish Community Council of Victoria has joined members of the Victorian Multifaith Advisory Group (MAG) and the Faith Communities Council of Victoria (FCCV) in a response to recent world events.The organisations released a statement saying: “As representatives of the Victorian faith communities and as people of goodwill, we express our despair and dismay at the horrors unfolding in many parts of the world, most notably at the moment in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Myanmar. As Australians from diverse religious communities, we are appalled by these conflicts.

As a priority, we call upon the major powers to enforce a ceasefire to protect the lives of innocent civilians in Syria.

We oppose oppression and violence perpetrated against innocent civilians wherever they may be.  We call for tolerance, striving for social cohesion, peace and the rejection of violence.  And for the international community to work together to save innocent lives in other areas of conflict.”

The Multifaith Advisory Group (MAG) consists of senior representatives from Victoria’s diverse faith communities. MAG represents the voice of Victoria’s faith leaders to the Victorian Government.

The Faith Communities Council of Victoria (FCCV) is comprised of the following peak bodies: Baha’i Community of Victoria, Brahma Kumaris Australia, Buddhist Council of Victoria, Hindu Council of Australia (Vic), Islamic Council of Victoria, Jewish Community Council of Victoria, Sikh Interfaith Council of Victoria and Victorian Council of Churches.

    I join the above concerned and worry how the Muslims in Syria are acting like barbarians towards each other, there is no one else to blame they simply can not get along with each other . The Syrian army is made up off everyday Syrian citizens they are not being forced to carry our atrocities against their own . The Rebel factions are also made up of fellow Syrians amongst other Muslims .This type of behavior further strengthens the argument why Australia must place a moratorium on Asylum Seekers that come from Countries consumed with Islamic extremism and where the culture of death and destruction is not compatible with our way of life. Do we want our country to end up like France, Germany , Sweden were Muslims are replacing Jews who are fleeing or live under siege.
    There are plenty refugees closer to home who would make more suitable future Australians.

    [ Spare the Group Think Name calling its boring}

    I don’t get it. The wars mentioned in this press release have been going on for years and with hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths already recorded, so why is it just now that this is all a concern?
