Delegates included Eyal Blum, Mayor of the Central Arava Regional Council; Orit Elkayam Cohen, Director of the Arava-Australia Partnership-Jewish Agency for Israel, Tamara Bruce – Chairperson of the Arava Project Australia and other key committee members.

The Israeli delegates, who reside in the remote Arava region in southern Israel wanted to gain information about Jewish Care’s aged care services, as the region is experiencing an ageing population for the first time. Due to the similar values of communal responsibility and support shared by Jewish Care and the Arava, the delegates wanted to learn how to prepare for their community’s future needs and be inspired by new ideas.

Mayor of the Central Arava Regional Council, Eyal Blum said: “We see planning for the healthy ageing of our expanding population as the most vital challenge today, in order to enable sustainable, long-term growth in the Arava.”

Jewish Care board members including President Jeffrey Appel and Assistant Treasurer Frank Ajzensztat; along with Executives CEO Bill Appleby and Chief Operating Officer Hugh Cattermole, led the delegation on a tour of Montefiore Homes Community Residence and the Active Living Centre. The delegation was also provided with information about other Jewish Care programs and services.

Jewish Care CEO Bill Appleby said: “It was a pleasure to have the Arava Project delegation spend time at Jewish Care to understand how we support elders in our community to remain active, connected and independent in their own homes.”
