The Jewish Community Council of Victoria’s Executive Director David Marlow has presented a certificate of appreciation to the Social Action Captains of Leibler Yavneh College.

Jeremy Tusia and Mayan Gafin raised over $1000 for the JCCV Youth Alcohol Program (YAP). JCCV is very appreciative of the efforts of the students of Leibler Yavneh College and the presentation was made at the last school assembly of term one.

Leibler Yavneh’s Social Action program is focusing on technology, drugs and alcohol issues for the year. The funds raised came from student efforts where they put away their phones and technology for 24 hours. Initiatives later in the year will focus on drugs and alcohol.

The YAP program was launched by JCCV almost ten years ago, and delivers programs to students and parents from Jewish day schools relating to under-age alcohol use and abuse, and has expanded into drug issues in selected year levels.  Plans are underway to expand the program further to reach students in non-Jewish schools, initially through organisations such as UJEB and Spiritgrow.

David Marlow stated, “YAP will use the money raised for reference and educational materials for YAP’s student and parent sessions in schools, such as printing parent guides.”
