The president of The Jewish Community Council of Victoria, John Searle, says he did offer support to Manny Waks, a victim of alleged sexual abuse at Melbourne Yeshivah.

John Searle

Waks featured in an article in Melbourne’s “The Age” in which he discussed the alleged sexual abuse at the institution.

Searle wrote to Waks:  “There is no place for such heinous behaviour in civil society and I commend you on your bravery in speaking out about your experiences.

I would also like to extend to you and other victims the Jewish Community Council of Victoria’s support in dealing with matters that may ensue over the near future, including liaising with police and the media, or gaining access to appropriate counselling and other channels of support.

Please feel free to contact me if there is any way in which we can assist you. Please also convey this offer to other victims of abuse with whom you are in contact.

I look forward to dealing with you further in happier times.”

Waks told J-Wire he received a copy of the letter yesterday via email from John Searle. Waks lives in Canberra but has been away from home for several days.

  1. Yu Lee says:

If only Manny Waks had gone public before Rabbi Groner died !!!

  2. It doesn’t negate the fact that the first public statement from the JCCV was three weeks after the Yeshiva sex-abuse story broke in the Age on June 22.
