CEO Vic Alhadeff told J-Wire: “The accusation that the Jews killed Jesus is a falsehood that was renounced by the Vatican 50 years ago. It’s unfortunate that the misconception still exists today and even more disappointing when it is promoted by a high-profile figure like Jarryd Hayne.”

Hayne had moved from Sydney where he had starred in the Parramatta rugby League side and played representative football in the State of Origin  to the USA to pursue a career in the American National Football League.

The football star posted the tweets at the beginning of the month during a visit to Sydney where he attended a Hillsong Church conference.

When they were picked up by U.S. media, the 27-yr-old deleted them.

Although the tweets were deleted by Hayne, they had been “captured” and published on news.com.au accredited to Twitter.

Media reports state that no-one from the Hayne camp will comment.

The Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council’s Jeremy Jones has called on Jarryd Hayne to apologise.

He told J-Wire: “If Jarryd Hayne’s future is in the USA, it would be hoped that he would bring with him the positive messages of Australian multiculturalism, diversity and respect.

Unfortunately, while there is nothing to suggest he was being consciously antisemitic, his tweets have caused offence and put him, and by extension Australia, in a bad light.

I would hope a person who has the privilege to affect opinions of those who look up to him will come to understand  the damage words can do if not chosen carefully.

He acted appropriately in deleting the comments but he should now protect his own, and this country’s, reputation by apologising for the offence he caused.

Christianity has been a positive force in the young athlete’s life, and it is to be hoped that those who mentor him will guide him towards an understanding of how his tweets were so out of touch with principles of kindness, love and caring, and how contemporary Christian teaching commends compassion over contempt.”

Dvir Abramovich Chair of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission said Hayne’s tweets were “repulsive and irresponsible adding: “It’s a pity that Mr. Hayne is so ill-informed that he doesn’t know that in 1965 the Vatican rejected this charge.

For thousands of years, Jews were held in contempt and were persecuted and murdered because they were labelled as Christ-killers.

Rather than fuelling antisemitism, we need sportspeople to be powerful voices in countering racism and Jewish-hatred, especially when attacks against Jews worldwide are on the increase.

I’m not saying that Hayne is antisemitic but I think his statements are very, very dangerous,”  Abramovich said.

“Sportspeople are role models and people look up to them. The last thing we want is an Australian display of antisemitism

Jarryd Hayne is in line to kick-off a career wearing number 38 shirt as a running back with the San Francisco 49ers.

Wow, He even attended a Hillsong Church conference in Sydney. Double wow and he’s a “Christian” Check up on Hillsong after you check up on the Roman Catholic Church while you’re at it.

Wow I could go nuts here with my opinion as I see holes in so many areas. Yes, Jarryd is just a young dumb football player and I doubt anyone with any brains would look up to him. Sad that Vic Alhadeff’s still confused with Vatican and Christianity. Any educated person knows that the Catholic Church is anything but Christian as it goes against all scripture. PS there are a few… ok, very few Churches that actually follow scripture. It’s such a pity that most people don’t study the word of God but listen to those who supposedly are in the know. Solve the problem and pick up your Bible and read for yourself….. it’s not that hard and just for the fun of it check up on the history of the Roman Catholic (Catsick) Church and the who, what, when, where and when of the their teachings. It’s an offence to God.

I was going to ignore the comment of an intellectual midget like Hayne, but then I read Gil’s comment. Gil is perfectly correct and he has previously made the points about who was responsible for Jesus’ death.

Gil is also correct about the pusillanimous comments our “leaders” make.

I would just like to add this: if Hayne caught religion at Hillsong, instead of uttering mealy-mouthed nothings about the dummy’s comment, our leaders should be talking to the ventriloquist.

      Paul,

When this outrageous comment surfaces again (and as sure as night follows day it will) just once I’d like to see a reply by one of our so called representatives to the effect:
“HOW DARE YOU REPEAT THIS NONSENSE
WE KILLED NOBODY AND HERE ARE THE REASONS WHY”

Just how many more times am I to feed this spineless gutless lot the information to counter this accusation and go on the offensive?

What I find as disappointing is not the ignorant claptrap uttered by a person who happens to be a sportsperson. Vic Alhadeff and others bemoan the fact that the “misconception” is uttered by a high profile figure.
I’ve got news for you all.
This is what this “high profile figure” has been fed from birth so why does anyone expect better of him? He would be the last person who could remotely question the Christian Gospels he has been brought up on, espoused by good Christian leaders.

I am disappointed however by our so called Jewish leadership who can only blabber on that the Vatican said this or that, or multiculturalism or diversity.
By the way to all you people posing as Jewish leadership out there, the only thing the Vatican uttered was the duplicitous comment that Jews are not COLLECTIVELY responsible. So the implication is that while “not collectively” (whatever that means) responsible, Jews are still responsible and this is the claptrap you all so highly praise.

The tired old lame babblings by the Jewish establishment are a proven and abysmal failure. Next we will no doubt hear of some Jew offering to take this sportsman on a tour of the Holocaust Museum, as if that means squat in addressing this issue.

It is time to set the record straight with some cold hard historical realities.
This is what our so called leadership should be doing instead acting like the pleading ghetto Jews of old, pleading for multiculturalism, pleading for diversity, pleading for respect. If you lot don’t go on the offensive you will never get respect.

To address the issue of anti -Semitism head on, I offer the following.
The Republic of Rome 2,000 years ago would never have tolerated anyone in its midst being proclaimed as the Messiah or King of the Jews. Simply put, under Roman law, calls for a monarchy within the Republic would have been a treasonable offence punishable by death. It was not an issue for the Sanhedrin, as Christian theology would want us to believe.

The actions of the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate, as described in the New Testament, was a major contributing factor in the anti-Semitism we see today. Christianity teaches that at Passover there was a Roman custom whereby one prisoner scheduled for crucifixion would be pardoned. This same narrative goes on to say that when given the choice of who to free, the Jewish mob cried out for Barabbas. Then followed the hand washing scene where Pilate freed Barabbas and exonerated himself for the death of the Christ (literally the “anointed one”) and so started the beginnings of anti-Semitism spread so successfully down the centuries to the present day. Unfortunately, according the writings of the noted Roman historian Josephus, there was never any Roman custom to pardon anyone scheduled for crucifixion. If this is so, then the possibility exists that the whole story is a myth fabricated by the early Church to blame someone (but not the Roman authorities) for the death of their Christ. Who better to blame than Jews?

Jews wherever possible bury their dead before Shabbat, so when Christ’s followers (all Jews at the time) appealed to the Romans to have him brought down for burial before sunset, the New Testament states that to make sure he was dead, “the centurion speared him in the side and out gushed blood & water”. The interesting word here is “gushed”. This word implies that the heart is pumping. If this is so, the individual is alive. If someone was in fact crucified during the day and brought down alive before sunset, it is more than likely he could have recovered sufficiently from this ordeal within 3 days in order to make an appearance. This in my mind should cast grave doubts in respect to the entire concept of the resurrection, which is a fundamental tenet of Christian doctrine.

Until those who preach and practice Christianity come to grips with the reality that there are those in their midst who maintain and support the lies and persecution that has been perpetrated throughout centuries, culminating in the false accusation of deicide, the scourge of anti-Semitism has no hope of ever being extinguished.

Maybe Vic Alhadeff, Jeremy Jones or Dvir Abramovich could somehow get my comments sent to Jarryd Hayne. At least I am offering him something to think about.

  5. Pamela HOward says:

One has to feel sorry for this dumb footballer’s comments. It shows how all the beef and no brain
falls on society with foul comments such as this uneducated twit PJH

  6. millie phillips says:

If Jesus was divine and did now want to be killed He would have evaded it. Had Jesus’s father -god not wanted His son killed it would not have happened.
Had Jesus died in bed of old age there would be no Christianity
    Is that what you want?

    • Lynne Newington says:

I’m not sure to whom you comment is meant to be for, but in all fairness many men and women of goodwill do believe in the Jesus you refer too and I would hate them to be wounded.

In fact the “dreaded” Jehovah’s Witnesses were one of the first to warn the world you were under prosecution.
My comment was referring the the Vatican and it’s cohorts whose members knew no better and with such a teacher as a witness……what more can one say….

  7. Stan Black says:

Disappointing but not surprising. He’s a dumb footballer with a big mouth and too much money.

  8. Lynne Newington says:

Personally, I think it’s terrible you had to actually rely on the Vatican to exhonorate you considering their track record, even against their own.
And come to thnk of it, they refused to even acknowledge your right of return and legitimate staus as The State of Israel.

  9. Rabbi Pinchos Woolstone says:

Hopefully this young man regrets his outburst, apologize quickly and unambiguously and thinks before the talks or types.
