Jack Vidgin is 14 years old and won this year’s “Australia’s Got Talent”.  Yesterday, he toured Sydney care centre and refuge Jewish House…an environment not unknown to this modest teenager who has spent most of his life receiving care himself.

Jack Vidgin’s parents separated when he was three and he and his mother have battled every day of his young life until that magic moment when he won the premier Australian talent program.

Now under contract to Sony and just back from a successful appearance in Las Vegas, the modest teenager from Manly met with pupils from Moriah College, the Yeshiva College,  Masada College and Emanuel School  who had participated in a sleep out at Randwick racecourse to experience what life is like for the homeless. Jack joined the Jewish sleep-out students on a tour of the facility.

On the steps of Jewish House, the rising start performed perfectly in tune without any instrumental backing for his fellow teenagers who responded with rapturous applause.

Vidgin toured the facility with its CEO Rabbi Mendel Kastel who was quick to point out that although predominantly a Jewish facility, Jewish House is available to all denominations.

Jack and his mother Rachel told J-Wire: “We have spent nights sleeping in our car…so we know what it means to be homeless. And the St Vincent de Paul Society has done so much over the years to help us get through. So we can really appreciate the work of The Jewish House.”

But life is changing rapidly for Jack and Rachel. They have now moved to Darlinghurst and are wtahcing sales of Jack’s album rising in the U.S. as well as Australia on iTunes.

Jack Vidgin will be the headline performer at the Jewish House gala dinner in Sydney next month.

There will be no need for him to sing for his supper…a swelling fan club and skyrocketing music sales will see a paradigm change in the lives of Jack Vidgin and his mother Rachel.

Jewish House is organising another sleep-out next year.
