J-Wire and its paywall

Following a comment from a reader, J-Wire needs to clarify its paywall position.

Accepting that free news is readily available on the Internet and with our advertisers’ interest in mind, J-Wire has ceased the paywall which blocked the reading of certain articles and replaced it with the option of becoming a Friend of J-Wire.

The new system calls for a paywall to appear after the reader has read five articles. This paywall can be exited  and there is no obligation for those who do not want to pay for J-Wire. Just exit that screen and continue to read whatever you want at no charge. However, from time to time the notice will reappear offering the option to Become a Friend and will always be quittable.

For those who do want to show their appreciation and allow J-Wire to continue to grow, the cost of the service is $4.99 per month or $50 per year.

The splash screen takes you to the paywall, you get a login and a password and the paywall screen disappears…this way those readers who wish to do so, have the opportunity of showing their appreciation.

Those currently on the normal paywall need do nothing at this stage…

For any clarification, please email paywall@jwire.com.au
