An ANZAC Civil Service will be held at the Auckland Domain on ANZAC Day. The service includes the laying of wreaths by diplomatic representatives.

The Honorary Consul for Israel, David Robinson will lay a wreath on behalf of the State of Israel.

He will be wearing the medals of his late Uncle Sergeant Joel Treister  who served with the RNZAF and was killed in the Second World War.

The wreath will be prepared by the late Joel Treister’s niece Suzanne Szushterman.

ANZAC Day has its origins in the First World War when David Robinson’s wife’s  grandfathers fought for the Austrian Hungarian armies against New Zealand.

Those grandfathers along with many other Jews who served for the armed forces of  Germany and its allies during the First World War were murdered by the Nazis during the Second World War.
