Israeli journalists take to the podium

Two senior Israeli journalists will be speaking to Sydney audiences this week – the opinion editor of Ma’ariv and the defence correspondent for Israel’s Channel 10 TV News.

Ben-Dror Yemini

Ben-Dror Yemini, the opinion editor of Ma’ariv,  will address a public meeting at Kesser Torah College on Monday evening November 12 as a guest of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry and the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.

One of Israel’s most outspoken commentators, he has written extensively on Iran, Jewish refugees from Arab countries, Jerusalem, the status of Israeli Arabs and the status of women in Israeli and Arab societies.

Born in Tel Aviv, he studied Humanities and History at Tel Aviv University and continued with studies in law. He was appointed adviser to the Minister of Immigration Absorption and then became its spokesman. In 1984 he began his career as a journalist and essayist, and has been opinion editor of Ma’ariv since 2003.

Alon Ben-David

Alon Ben-David, a Board of Deputies’ international guest, is Senior Defence Correspondent for Israel’s Channel 10 TV News and Middle East Correspondent for Aviation Week, will address a UIA north shore meeting on Thursday November 15 at 7.30pm at East Lindfield Bowling Club. He will also address the MDA film night on Sunday November 18 at Event Cinemas, Westfield Bondi Junction.

He has been covering the Middle East conflict for 25 years for Israeli and international media outlets including Jane’s Defence Weekly. He led the coverage of Israel’s war in Lebanon, covered the second Intifada and reported from New York on 9/11.  He has been interviewed by CNBC, Al Jazeera, CBS News and the International Business Times.
