Israel marks China National Day

Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin has addressed the China National Day Reception hosted by the Chinese Ambassador to Israel Zhan Yongxin, in Tel Aviv, marking 66 years since the independence of the People’s Republic of China.

The President thanked the Ambassador for his warm welcome and noted that “Today we mark the anniversary of a modern event, but the history and culture that we celebrate goes back many thousands of years. We see this reflected in our mutual understanding and in our close friendship. A friendship which honors and respects the oldest of traditions, but produces the most modern technology and economic development. I am especially proud of the cooperation between our two governments, and our peoples, on issues such as the environment, agriculture, and energy. Where we work together for a better and more prosperous future for all our children, for the whole world.”

He added that “In the current geopolitical reality our ongoing cooperation in many fields is more important than ever. The friendship between Israel and China, which reaches from one side of the world to the other, across great distances and between two peoples is perhaps the best example, that with shared understanding and mutual respect we can truly achieve great things.”

The President concluded by extending his congratulations to the Ambassador and all the Chinese people on their national celebrations, and his good wishes on the occasion of the Jewish New Year.

Ambassador Zhan Yongxin thanked the President and said, “At present, the relationship between China and Israel is sound and steady. Our political mutual trust is strengthening and economic and trade links are expanding.”

He noted, “Seven decades ago, the rampant of fascism and militarism caused profound disasters upon the Chinese and Jewish people. During the darkest of times, both our two people extended hands to each other and supported each other. We will never forget. Let us join hands to create a better future for our two countries and nations.”
