The Alfred Dreyfus Unit of B’nai B’rith New South Wales in conjunction with the Australasian Union of Jewish Students will run its ‘In Conversation’ forum – ‘Israel – Home only for some Jews ?’ later this month.

Building on from our last forum which explored the role and work of youth movements within the Jewish community, the forum will explore topics such as Netanyahu and the Government on the Kotel, the re-introduction of the Conversion Law and the powers given to the Haredim.

B’nai B’rith aims to unite all people of the Jewish faith and advocate on behalf of Jews throughout the world and BBNSW ADU President Ernie Friedlander says “I look forward to welcoming members of various groups from within our community to explore this very important topic. For me as Holocaust Survivor, it was one of many attractions in B’nai B’rith”.

“These are issues that sadly at times can divide our community but in hosting this event we will be bringing people together”.

“This is not a debate, there will be no winner or loser just a frank, constructive and respectful discussion allowing attendees  the chance to hear a different point of view.”

The Panel which will be moderated by highly regarded CEO of the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies Vic Alhadeff and includes:

o   Steve Denenberg – President ARZA –the Progressive view

o   Rabbi Dr Dovid Slavin – head of the Big Kitchen & the Yeshiva College – the Orthodox view

o   Teneille Murray – Head of the Young Adults Zionist Council

o   Yoav Yaron – the Shaliach of AUJS

“This is an important discussion to have as a community, not to divide the community, but to hear perspective from different, but all Zionist individuals on the panel. It is especially important for students to engage in this discussion and be able to make an informed decision on these topical debates of Israel” says Isabella Polgar, AUJS National Chairperson.

‘In Conversation – ‘Israel – Home only for some Jews ?” will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, 23 August 2017 at the B’nai B’Rith Centre, Barker Street Kensington near the McDonalds.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students with RSVP to ernie.friedlander@bbnsw.org.au or by phone to 9321 6309.
