Ninety thousand blood glucose test strips, 25 One Touch meters, and 20 boxes of control solution have been donated by Insulin for Life Australia IFL Australia www.insulinforlife.org.au to 10 Pacific Island Nations, with the Embassy of Israel, Canberra covering the transport and handling costs.

Diabetes in the Pacific is an enormous problem and a major cause of very expensive medical complications.

Blood glucose test strips cost $1 and more each in Pacific Island Nations, an impossible situation for most people.

These items are being used in clinics, for example in women with gestational diabetes, and help ensure that the pregnancy is less complicated, and with improved outcomes. They are also used in hospitals, for children, in people with diabetes complications.

IFL Australia www.insulinforlife.org.au collects and donates diabetes supplies overseas following specific requests from recognised organisations in countries in need, and with an agreed protocol.

IFL Global consists of affiliated centres in 10 overseas countries based on the same model
