Major General Jim Molan spent 40 years in the Australian army and will deal with deal with this question at this month’s NSW Board of Deputies plenum.

Major General Jim Molan is one of the most decorated soldiers to have served in the Australian Defence forces. In 2008 he retired after 40 years of service, ranging from command and staff appointments in operations, training, staff and military diplomacy.

  • Served across a wide range of command and staff appointments in operations, training, staff and military diplomacy
    -infantryman
    -Indonesian speaker
    -helicopter pilot
    -commander of army units
    -commander of the Australian Defence Colleges and commander of the evacuation force from the Solomon Islands in 2000
  • April 2004- deployed to Iraq as the Coalitions chief of operations during a period of continuous and intense combat
  • Awarded the distinguished service cross by the Australian government and the legion of Merit by the United States Government for his distinguished command and leadership in Iraq
  • Advisor to the vice chief of the Defence force of the defence force on joint war fighting and the first Defence Material Advocate, promoting Australian defence industry overseas
  • Bachelor of arts from UNSW/ bachelor of economics from university of Queensland
  • August 2008 – published his book ‘Running the war in Iraq’
  • 2009 – Australian thinker of the year
  • In retirement

The plenum will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at the NCJW Council House at 8pm.
