A Sydney woman has attended the  International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, conference in Jerusalem.

It was the second IAJGS conference attended by genealogist Pam Karp.

Presenting 200 lectures in a wide variety of subjects took an incredible effort on the part of the organisers.

It was an outstanding event. I went to Jerusalem to participate in the exchange of Genealogy ideas and meet with like-minded people from other parts of the world.

I had the honour of being invited to speak at one of the Gesher Galicia SIGs (Special Interest Group) on a project unique to the genealogy platform, Geni.com in which I am  curator. The topic deals with the Geni functionality “Town Projects” that enables the “Recreation of Vanished Cities” such as Kraków.  For the past couple of years I have been working on bringing a website if 70,000 profiles of Jewish people over to Geni.

The six curators who attended the conference managed a Geni booth where we were able to assist visitors with their family trees.  Besides meeting new people many of whom I had been in contact with over the years, this conference was again a special experience of renewing contact with people who wanted to share their research.
Making this conference even more special was the company of my friend Randy Schoenberg, co-curator at Geni.com and solicitor of re known in art restitution and “Woman in Gold” fame.  I was fortunate to have been present at the talk he gave at the Israel Museum on the story of the Klimt paintings.

Chairman Michael Goldstein and his able team can be well satisfied that it was ” A conference like no other”.

    Hi

I delivered a paper at the IAJGS35 conference. Let me know if you want me to submit an article.

I also met the first group of ANC Youth League tourists to Israel which has ended in controversy – see SA Jewish Report and Haaretz.

    Regards

    Eli
