A unique mission to Israel has been announced by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies in conjunction with the highly-regarded Israel-based media monitor HonestReporting.

The mission will appeal to all members of the community who are actively committed to Israel and particularly those interested in, or involved with advocacy. This includes the 600 graduates of the Board of Deputies’ popular Talking About Israel course.

Yair Miller

The Board of Deputies has worked with HonestReporting to design a program which is completely advocacy-focused, balanced and unique. The mission will be led by HonestReporting chief executive officer Joe Hyams and Board of Deputies President Yair Miller. It will begin in Israel on November 26 and conclude on December 4. Numbers will be strictly limited to ensure that each participant can benefit from intimate meetings with Israeli ministers, politicians, military and strategic experts, diplomats, journalists, non-government organisations and human rights campaigners.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity to hear from experts in all the key sectors behind closed doors,” Board of Deputies chief executive officer Vic Alhadeff said. ”It is a close-up look at the major issues as they really are. Meetings with settlers, Israeli Arabs and peace activists are included, as are briefings from authorities in the security, terrorism and political arenas.

“The mission is open to all members of the community and promises to deliver a unique and stimulating look at Israel.”

  1. While a valuable, necessary experience, is it REALLY valuable and necessary for the local communal leaders to act as tour guides while there are pressing problems down here to be attended to, strict budgets and also plenty perfectly informed with perfect English Israelis to do the honours. We are already seeing our local leaders turned into “Junketim”, taking all and any oportunity to be away from their leadership desks, either to cover with relentless ambition ALL primary schools, bowling clubs and other bingo venues in country NSW, not to mention a good slice of international meets, from Oslo to Washington, Johanesburg and, of course Jerusalem at a rate that any foreign affairs minister would envy. It DOES look like one is very busy, but I doubt that it looks like anyone is efficiently “busy”.

I recently attended a similar mission in Israel with nitsana darshan-leitner Shurat Ha Din [ Israel law center] and it was sensational . I’m sure the Honest Reporting Mission who are a fantastic organization will be also worth the effort to attend and get an unique perspective of what is going on in Israel.

Honest Reporting, Shurat Ha Din, NGO Monitor and PMW[ Palestinian Media Watch] are the true Israeli Human Rights organizations.

  3. An excellent programme. How do I apply or need I ? Also , can we make special requests ?

  4. Just a thought. Any special tours to special clinics for special Board members with enlarged prostate ??!!

  5. Mr. Vic, put me down !!!

  6. Now this is real tachles !! Our Board is going down to solid business. Not just simple leaders but genuine ” Junketim “. I want Mr Yair to be my guide, kind of personalt trainer, show me around Tahana Merkazit and take me to the BEST shaurma and the juiciest tabouli – I mean REL lemon juice, not that schmalzy hara – stand, followed by a meeting with those lovely peace activists and, who knows I may even have that rare chance to shake hands with his mate David Landau. That will be a real mehaye !!
Speaking of real mehaie, chances are that, if not guided by these well travelled communal experts – at communal expert expense – I may end up in down town Damascus, or Tripoli or even Bucharest. Come to think of it, wouldn’t Mr. Vic like that !!??

Mr Henry: VERY PUBLISHABLE !! At least you have me full name, although nobody at the Board know who I am.
