The President of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry will confer with the Federal Government on the re-admission of Hezbollah TV al-Manar station.Robert Goot told J-Wire that the Government’s decision to allow al-Manar to broadcast was based on the finding that it did not breach the anti-terrorism standards was irrelevant.

“We never asked the Government to consider the broadcast on the basis of terrorism”, Goot said. “When we complained to the Government in August 2008, it was on the basis of the virulent ant-Semitic nature of the station’s broadcasts. We were and remain focused on how their programming can be seen with regard to the Racial Discrimination Act. If the programs to be screened to al-Manar’s subscribers have similar content to those previously shown then there may well be cause for concern and justifiable action under the RDA. I intend getting in touch with Communications Minister Stephen Conroy on Monday to discuss this further.”
