Chabad Rabbi Dovid Slavin visited the Deputy Consul-General of Japan this week following the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami.

Rabbi Dovid Slavin and Deputy Consul-General Kazutoshi Inadome

The two had previously met when Consul-General Kazutoshi Inadome visited  Sydney’s Our Big Kitchen in February.

Rabbi Slavin offered expressions of sympathy and support on behalf of Chabad and the entire Jewish community, handing over symbolic food packages, prepared in the kitchen, as a mark of empathy and respect for those who continue to suffer terribly in the wake of this appalling natural disaster while putting the services of the Kitchen at the disposal of the people of Japan.

Rabbi Slavin’s gesture echoes the actions of Tokyo-based Chabad-Lubavitch of Japan and the Hong Kong-based Chabad-Lubavitch of Asia, who have reportedly led the Jewish community response to the tragedy, providing shipments of tons of bread, rice, noodles, soups, canned foods, flour and oil.
