Guest of honour at the community A-list part was Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey filling in for Prime Minister Tony Abbott who was forced to cancel due to an unexpected visit to Queensland to inspect the damage caused by the recent cyclones.

Also speaking at the function was Federal Communications Minister and local member Malcolm Turnbull who AJN editor Zeddy Lawrence quipped as being “the next Prime Minister”.

Robert Magid, publisher of the AJN spoke of the challenges facing the Jewish world today and the part the AJN plays in the Australian arena.

The function was held at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Point Piper.

The Sydney Morning Herald covered the event, highlighting the lack of communication between the two Liberal Ministers.

Henry Benjamin, editor and publisher of J-Wire said: “There is not a Jew I know who has never used the expression bis ein hundred und zwanzig”…we all receive the wish to live to that grand old age…well no-one individual I know has, but the Australian Jewish News has succeeded in doing so. So I wish it another 120 years!”
