The ceremony took place in Nahal Assaf in the Northern Negev lying on the Anzac Trail, the 60km route taken by the Australian Light Horse Brigade before their famous charge against the Turks in 1917.

In this historical spot, the 18 trees were planted in the memory of the Australian soldier who died fighting the Taliban. Australian ambassador James Larsen and JNF and KKL executives  attended the ceremony together with Australians currently living in or visiting Israel.

Joe Krycer, Director of JNF Victoria, told the gathering that the spot eternalising Greg’s memory is significant because the famous charge of the Light Horse had played a pivitol role in the liberation of what was to become Israel.

Greg’s father Felix recited Kaddish.

The trail will shortly be open to the public and is vehicle accessible.
