Israel’s ambassador to Australia, HE Yuval Rotem, sends a Rosh Hashana message…

HE Yuval Rotem

Amongst the powerful traditions of Rosh Hashana is an obligation, both communal and individual, to reflect on our past successes and failures. As an ambassador, both observer and participant in the lives of many communities and two nations, Rosh Hashana holds special significance for me. The years of my posting, while keeping me far from home, have granted me the opportunity to embrace the Jewish community and the people of this great country.

In Australia, I have found a wonderful and vibrant society which proudly engages with both Israel and Australia. The Australian Jewish community should rightly celebrate the achievements of the past year and reflect anew on the successes of generations past, just as Israel celebrates the close friendship and support that Australia has given for so many years.

As the rich notes of the shofar echo through the synagogues of Dianella, Bondi and Caulfield, let us re-dedicate ourselves to the values that strengthen us individually and collectively as a community and as a nation.

It is my great pleasure to welcome in 5773 alongside the Australian Jewish Community, whose deep sense of purpose, justice and unity evokes the spirit that has driven our nation for thousands of years.

On behalf of my wife Miri and I, we hope that the new year realises our dreams and aspirations for peace while bringing tranquility and justice to the Jewish people, Israel and all mankind.

May these aspirations unify us to seek a future that presents new possibilities and unbridled joy, a place where future generations will only know success, happiness and harmony.

Shana Tovah v’ Gamar Chatimah Tovah.
