In light of the dramatic increase in Aliyah (immigration) from France and Ukraine, The Jewish Agency for Israel and the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption—the two central bodies tasked with responsibility for Aliyah and immigrant absorption—are spearheading a comprehensive effort to allocate ever more resources to further increase the number of immigrants and aid their absorption into Israeli society.

Led by The Jewish Agency for Israel, the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, and the National Institutions, the Joint Operation for Aliyah Promotion will run until the end of 2015 and will support the efforts of The Jewish Agency by increasing budgetary allocations and providing additional assistance to new immigrants.

Natan Sharansky, Chairman of the Executive of The Jewish Agency, said: “As Aliyah from France, Ukraine, and elsewhere continues to rise, it is significant that The Jewish Agency’s efforts will be receiving increased support from the Government of Israel. The dramatic increase in Aliyah from France demonstrates that the partnership between The Jewish Agency and the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption can produce real results, and we look forward to further enhancing our cooperation by partnering with the National Institutions to significantly increase the resources dedicated to Aliyah promotion and immigrant absorption.”

Sofa Landver, Minister of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, said: “This joint effort between the Government of Israel via the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, The Jewish Agency for Israel, and the National Institutions will enable us to increase the number of immigrants coming to Israel and will illustrate Israel’s role and the importance it places on ingathering the exiles. This is a special partnership that underscores the centrality of Aliyah promotion to the agenda of the ministry and the National Institutions, and we welcome it wholeheartedly.”

The Jewish Agency is funded by the United Israel Appeal.
