Turkey has expelled Israeli ambassador Gabby Levy in response to Israel’s refusal to apologise for the commando raid on the Turkish Gaza flotilla in which nine people were killed.

Gabby Levy

Reuters has reported that Levy, a former ambassador to Australia, was in Israel when the news broke and has cancelled his plans to return to Turkey which has downgraded its diplomatic representation to Israel to maintaining a second secretary only.

Turkey has also suspended all military agreements but has stated that subject to an apology from Israel, all diplomatic relations could return to normal.

Levy was born in Turkey.

I wonder if the role of the US and Britain in partnership with Gadaffi will classified as excessive and taken to the United Nations. Egypt’s name came into it somewhere.
I hope outsiders will note the difference there between a regret with the Turkish Gaza Flotilla and the apology for the border shootings and not clump them both together.

To think that that Turkey was nearly accepted into the European Union. Glad we escaped that nightmare…
