Five people in the Gaza Belt region were wounded, including one seriously, as a missile barrage from the Gaza Strip that began Wednesday afternoon continued overnight.

One resident of the Eshkol Regional Council, a 30-year-old woman from Thailand, sustained injuries to her torso and arms when a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip the home she was in. At least eight people were treated for emotional shock and two pregnant women went into labor as a result of the attacks.

In all, more than 150 projectiles had been fired from Gaza at civilian communities in Israel between 6 pm Wednesday and 9 am Thursday, sending thousands of people running to take cover amid widespread panic. Several factories and private homes sustained damage,

However, several hit homes and factories in Israeli communities, causing damage. One barrage that slammed into the city of Sderot Wednesday evening injured three Israelis. At least eight others were treated for panic attacks, including two pregnant women who went into labor.

In response to the attacks, the IDF said it hit more than 100 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip overnight, including training compounds, munitions factories and at least one car. A pregnant woman and her child were killed in the attacks, as was Ali Randour, the son of Izz a-Din al-Qassam Brigades commander Abu Annas a-Randour.

Story unfolds:

At least two homes in Sderot were damaged by rocket fire from the Gaza Strip Wednesday.

Local residents reported that Iron Dome batteries downed at least one rocket.

The incident capped a day of tension in the Gaza Belt region, a day after IDF tanks shelled a Hamas guardpost after mistaking a training exercise for aggression directed towards Israel. Earlier Wednesday, the IDF identified Hamas operatives evacuating bases and outposts, leading officials to close roads adjacent to the border fence out of concerns that a cross-border could be imminent.

Also Wednesday, Palestinians opened fire at civilian work crews working along the northern section of the Gaza Strip. One vehicle was hit, the IDF Spokesman’s Unit said; IDF tanks responded by attacking a Hamas position in the region.
