The book features a collection of essays written mainly between 1995 and 2002 on weekly Torah readings.

All the essays have been sponsored by readers of the Rabbi’s weekly Torah email.  This has enabled him to defray costs.

The title is derived from a Talmudic simile of a hammer being shattered by a rock. “Just as this hammer fragments into many particles, so from a single verse can be extracted many teachings.

Rabbi Ingram’s essays are based on traditional sources but with an original twist.

The concepts explored are wide and varied and sometimes challenging but the book is written in an engaging and popular style not requiring advanced knowledge.

The book is a Shabbat table or a coffee-table book at a highly affordable price ($17.50).

The book was formatted by Rabbi Ingram’s son Gavriel and has been printed in Australia which is a rarity for Jewish religious books.

Rabi Ingram is director of Kol Shira learning centre in Bondi, honorary rabbi of Sydndey’s Jewish Centre on Ageing and the honorary secretary of the Rabbinical Council of NSW a position he has held for 18 years.  He was formally a rabbi and chazan at Sydney’s Central Synagogue where he spent eleven years as well as The Caro Synagogue, Bonsi and Surfers Central Synagogue on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Complimentary light refreshments, sushi and wine will be on offer as well as autographed copies of the new book.

Rabbi Chaim Ingram will be hosting the launch of his first book Fragments of the Hammer – Discoveries in the Weekly Sidra.at the Nefesh Shul, 54, Roscoe Street, Bondi Beach from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
