His fellow diners were mainly lawyers who heard an introduction from Chabad CBD’s Shliach Rabbi Chaim Herzog outlining a short biography of Justice Bromberg’s legal career.

They were told that Justice Bromberg had worked as a commercial litigator in Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong and London before joining the Victorian Bar in 1988.

He was appointed a Senior Counsel in 2003.

At the Bar, Justice Bromberg practiced mainly in the fields of industrial and employment law and also appeared in constitutional, trade practices, administrative and discrimination law cases.

He was appointed as a judge of the Federal Court in Dec. 2009.

Justice Bromberg spoke about a “Pilot Program” that he started 6 months ago, which provides Voluntary Lawyers who give of their services pro-bono for an hour or two a week to help the self help litigants shape their case and than assist them in how to proceed in court.

A litigant in person is a claimant that does not have their own personal lawyer nor do they have Legal Aid. A vexatious litigant is one that is usually bankrupt or on the verge of bankruptcy and are usually quarrelant litigants.

Rabbi Herzog thanked Justice Mordechai Bromberg for taking time from his busy schedule and coming to speak to the Chabad House.
