Sydney’s Montefiore Home has celebrated Family Fun Day as part of NSW Seniors Week 2012.

President David Freeman AM, Melanie Lindenberg, Director of Client and Residential Services and Shafina Maneck, HomeCare Manager

Seniors’ week aims to encourage seniors to actively participate in the community and provides Senior’ with opportunities to share their knowledge, remain active, healthy and independent and learn and develop themselves at any age.

The theme this year was ‘Live Life’ and that is exactly what management aimed to do at Montefiore Home Randwick, where we held an intergenerational program for Residents and their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

BJE senior students also participated for the second year running and their involvement with the Residents was aimed towards giving the students a better understanding of how Montefiore cares for the older members of the community.

Activities on the day included pony rides, face painting, jumping castle, street performers and the Funky Bug’s show and the Randwick Public School Wind Orchestra. Naturally Monte the Lion popped in to say hello. Coinciding with the culmination of Seniors Week was the Aged Expo. In order to inform the community about what is available and how easy it is to access help, COA, Montefiore Home, Wolper Jewish Hospital, B’nai Brith Retirement Villages, The Burger Centre and JewishCare as well as Hatzolah all displayed their services and programs at the Burger Centre at Montefiore Campus Randwick. This is the first time all seven organisations have displayed their programs at once. Over 100 people attended the event which included the launch of the new Gateway initiative that will be serve as the single point of entry for all Jewish aged services.

The Gateway site can be accessed by www.gatewaynsw.com or calling 1300 854 283. Montefiore encourages intergenerational sharing as part of our commitment to Quality of Life for our Residents and purposefully integrates intergenerational activities into the Home. Montefiore is also committed to keeping Residents active, engaged and involved in society.
