The Florence Melton Adult Mini-School classes begin next week in Sydney.

Melton is now run through the Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney in conjunction with its Centre for Continuing Education. This program, developed by the Hebrew University, has a structured curriculum and is taught in 62 locations around the world.

The stimulating and thought-provoking course explores the history, philosophy, ethics and practice of Jewish life moving from ancient to modern times. The facilitators are experts in the areas they present and know how to involve and challenge participants who will leave with a greater understanding of this fascinating and enduring world-religion, its culture and people.

Melton’s move to the University of Sydney has expanded the program beyond the Jewish community. The Centre for Continuing Education’s marketing program has led to several non-Jewish students enrolling for the courses. Melton is a platform whereby non-Jewish people can learn more about Jewish laws, customs and practice.

John Seaman, a Christian participant reflected: “You will come away with a new appreciation of Scripture, Judaism and Jewish history. Another member of the class said to me on the last night of a course: ‘Interfaith dialogue is good, but this interfaith understanding is better.’ “

Melton is now offered in 4 separate 15 week blocks and students can start with any course. Classes will be held in the morning and evening at the following venues:
