The Great Synagogue seeks a full-time General Manager

The Great Synagogue (TGS) is located in the heart of the Sydney CBD in the most beautiful Jewish building in Australia, dating back to 1878. It houses a strong, growing membership base and hosts many events and activities for the community throughout the year. We are a warm Modern Orthodox community, open to people of all ages and backgrounds and our ethos is to make Judaism accessible and enjoyable. As a thriving congregation, we have a forward-thinking Board, an inspirational Rabbi, an exceptional Cantor and Choir, and a community filled with the most wonderfully diverse group of people.

We welcome all Jews, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic background or level of observance.


The Role:

TGS is focused on growth in membership and engagement, resulting in administrative and financial expansion and we require a General Manager to lead a small administrative team in growth opportunities. We are looking for an organised, detail-oriented, entrepreneurial leader who can take initiative and help us realise that vision.

The role provides overseeing the areas of:


  • Administration / Personnel Management
  • Financial Management
  • Building Management
  • Religious Services and Program Support
  • Membership
  • Event Management
  • Board Support


The administrative team has 3 individuals who work very effectively together to support the above functions.

We are looking for a strong and collaborative leader with a great attitude and a sense of humour who will support the team.

This is a full-time position based in the Sydney CBD near Town Hall station.
