Emmy Monash finalist in elder care innovation awards

Melbourne’s aged care facility Emmy Monash has been shortlisted as finalist in the “Best Active Ageing Programme” category in the 2016 Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards.

Emmy Monash, competed with over 150 nominations from countries throughout the Asia Pacific region, in 17 separate categories.

The Bridging the Gap inter-generational program with Mount Scopus College, Year 9 Community Service students was recognised as a leading positive ageing program which encourages reciprocal learning, enhances holistic wellness, breaks down negative stereo types of ageing and promotes collaborative energy. A formal application was submitted by Maureen Shulsinger, Community and Volunteer Liaison Manager and Judy Fetter, Donor Relations Manager, responding to set criteria to best outline the aims, objectives and outcomes from the program, which has been operating for five years.

The specific planning, logistics and operation of the Bridging the Gap program is successfully undertaken by Maureen Shulsinger and Ittay Flescher, Community Service Coordinator at Mount Scopus College with a dynamic energy to make a significant difference to our residents and to broaden the scope of students outlook to being involved in community service. The positive outcomes of this trusted partnership engaging both youth and seniors in mutually enjoyed activities is a lifelong lesson enjoyed by all participants. The collaboration of two leading Jewish specialists in Education and Aged Care makes this shortlisting even more special.

The fact of this program being recognised as a leader in “Best Active Ageing Programme” 2016 category in the Asia Pacific region is a huge achievement. This follows our success in 2015 when Emmy was also nominated as a finalist for the” Best Dementia Care Program”, Art and Memory – Through the Senses.

The winner of this category which will be announced at the Ageing Asia Innovation Forum in Singapore at the end of next month.
