Have you ever been confronted with the problem of organising a dinner party in a restaurant and wanting to invite guests who you know to be strictly Kosher?

Well, it is no longer a problem. Sydney caterers Passion8 have arrangements in place with most of the city’s leading restaurants where they can supply Kosher meals for vistors or business guests who require them.

Passion8 told J-Wire that restaurants will not allow an entire party to be served Kosher…the facility exists only if there are one or two in an average sized group.

So those restaurants sporting spectacular views of the Harbour City which were previously a no-go zone for Orthodox visitors can now offer strictly Kosher food from Passion8 for a small cover charge.

One needs to consider the issue of “maaris ayin” – being seen eating in a treife restaurant, even if the food you are eating is kosher. It is a difficult area of halachah and one should consult one’s rabbi before entering into such a situation.

As an aside, all of the caterers and food places in Sydney offer such meals – not just passion8. For example, Katzy’s, Tibby’s, Grunfeld, etc.

  2. This e-mail is in no way a criticism of Passion8,but the fact that they provide Kosher meals(not more that 2) in certain restaurants raises a bigger issue.

It is a real shame that in a city such as Sydney there is no contemporary fine dining kosher restaurant – as one can find in many cities of the world. If this was the case, those that keep Kosher could enjoy a meal with others where everyone can make choices from the same menu, eat from the same plates all using the same cutlery. This way everyone can be catered for without creating differences between people.
Maybe then hosts could feel free to invite more than 2 couples who keep Kosher!!!

Is there a list of facilities that offer this service?Where can I find such a list?Maybe Passion8 can supply such.A step forward!
