Dubai update
78-yr-0ld South African Professor Cyril Karabus, a pediatric oncologist,is facing manslaughter charge in the United Arab Emirates following the death of a 4-yr-old child he had been treating for Leukemia in Abu Dhabi in 2002. His case was received a mention in court again last week.

The court had appointed a medical panel to review the patient’s file and also agreed to allow the defence to see the file. The court heard on November 20 that the file was yet to be found.
A family member told J-Wire: “The file is still missing and the case was postponed another two weeks until 6 Dec. He can’t come home as his passport has been confiscated. The original file is said to have been destroyed after 2004. This had been ordered in the first judgement against my father. If this is the case, then this is all mindgames and torture and completely unnecessary. No-one is able to say where the file is , whether it exists at all or not.”
Professor Karabus had been attending his son’s wedding in Canada and had over nighted in Dubai on his way home to South Africa.
He has been released from an Abu Dhabi jail on bail following his arrest at Dubai airport whilst in transit on August 18.
The Australian national airline Qantas is routing most of its flights to Europe through Dubai in partnership with the UAE’s Emirates Airline.
