A police car chase ended early this morning with the vehicle slamming into a row of shops in the Melbourne suburb of Bentleigh…including Glick’s Kosher Bakery and bursting into flames. The driver of the car died in the inferno. It is believed the car was traveling at over 150 kmh as police gave chase. They called off the pursuit shortly before the driver appeared to lose control. The incident happened around 2.30 a.m and there were no other injuries reported.

Nathan Glick told J-Wire: “The shop is currently a crime scene and I cannot access it. We seem to have incurred physical damage to the shop front and smoke damage inside…but all being well, we should be open again for business on Sunday.”

The local Coles supermarket has taken in extra supplies from Glicks in order to satisfy the normal Friday needs of the local Jewish community for their Shabbat Challas.
