Dr Howard Freeman, President of the AJHS stated, “I am delighted to announce that David Marlow, former Executive Director of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria has agreed to accept the role of Honorary Secretary, and has been performing in that role since 1 January.

David has a strong personal interest in Australian Jewish history, an MBA from Monash University and extensive experience in various non-profit organisations at board level.  David is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD).”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Phillip Lipshut for his two years of commendable service and commitment to the AJHS as Honorary Secretary.  Unfortunately, Phillip has had to resign due to
other commitments and completed his role at the end of 2018.

David Marlow stated, “I am delighted to joining the AJHS as Honorary Secretary, and thank Phillip Lipshut for a very helpful and supportive handover over the new year period.”

“The AJHS is the keeper of the records, ensuring that our community’s history is not forgotten, so that we and future generations can learn from it.  My personal family history includes Kindertransport (father), Dachau (maternal grandfather), the Dunera ‘Boys’ experience and wartime internment in Australia (father), grandparents murdered in
the Holocaust (Izbica), and pre-War migration (mother and maternal grandparents).”

“I look forward to bringing my business and organizational experience to help the AJHS succeed into the future.  I already know many members and I am looking forward to meeting many more.”

The AJHS’s first event for 2019 will be Dr Margaret Taft and Prof Andrew Markus speaking about their new book ‘A Second Chance: The Making of Yiddish Melbourne’ at 7:30pm on Thursday 28 February at the AJHS Annual General Meeting at Temple Beth Israel.
