It has been thirteen years since NSW B’na B’rith established Courage to Care…a special unit which travels to regional Australia hosting mobile exhibits and explaining the Holocaust and Jewish culture to communities some of which have never met a Jew.

The anniversary was marked by a Barmitzvah party in the B’nai B’rith headquarters in Sydney. James Altman, the national president of B;nai B’rtih floored the audience with his parody of the Australian classic “I’ve been everywhere” in which he details all the destinations the Courage to Care unit had covered in its travels.

Courage to Care is rapidly approaching hosting its 160,000th visitor and is proud to have the Governor-General Quentin Bryce as its patron. Over the years its focus has changed from those who suffered during the Holocaust to those brave individuals who stood up in the face of adversity to fight for human rights. The policy also manifests itself in day to day life in Australia across all cultures with Courage to Care dealing with all forms of discrimination including bullying within the school system and within the workplace.

The party, which was hosted by up and coming Tami Sussman, also heard from Courage to Care chairman Andrew Havas and Glenn Fletcher representing the Snowy Mountains Christian School in Cooma.

Two pupils from the school, Elizabth Fletcher and Hannah Learoyd joined home school student Jonathan McDonald, also from Coooma, in telling the partygoers about the effect a Courage to Care exhibition they visited in Canberra had had on them. All three students share their thirteenth year with Courage to Care.
