Before the screening, Courage to Care volunteers, supporters, dignitaries and friends mingled with the filmmakers and stars,

Commissioned by the late Roz Feitelson OAM, The Courage of Strangers was a labour of love for all involved. Award-winning director/producer Judy Menczel and her team have delivered a moving, uplifting 52-minute film capturing the attention of the audience and taking them on a journey as they experienced firsthand some of the wonderful, colourful characters of a Courage to Care team on the road.

Narrated by distinguished journalist Caroline Jones, The Courage of Strangers follows a group of Holocaust survivors, rescuers, Righteous Among the Nations, facilitators and volunteer supporters as they travel to country towns around Australia educating students about the importance of standing up to bullying, prejudice and discrimination. The film is a tribute to those people who selflessly risked their own safety to stand up for what they knew was right during World War II. The premiere screening was a tribute to Roz Feitelson OAM and her deeply-felt commitment to fighting discrimination and racism.

MC for the night, James Altman, introduced Courage to Care’s Chairman Andrew Havas and John Feitelson who launched the film. A heartwarming appeal was made by Josie Wolanski, a Courage to Care volunteer since 2000, who together with her late mother, Sabina van der Linden-Wolanski, has been an avid supporter of the program.

Rounding off the proceedings was Ernie Friedlander OAM who thanked the crowd for their attendance and ongoing support of Courage to Care.

Andrew Havas, Chairman of Courage to Care was overwhelmed by the audience’s enthusiastic reaction to the film, “The emails started pouring in last night. The Courage of Strangers made such a positive impact that a number of people have indicated that they would like to volunteer for Courage to Care.”

Courage to Care to plan a second screening on Thursday 15 September 2011 at B’nai B’rith House, 22 Yurong Street, East Sydney.
