For the past two months weekly cooking sessions with Jewish and Muslim women have been taking place between Our Big Kitchen and Punchbowl Boys High School.

Interfaith: Elaine Black Cooking at Punchbowl Boys High School

Chicken soup and potato kuegel, rich Lebanese savories and pastries, have all been mouth-wateringly prepared, copiously noted down, photographed and consumed with much pleasure and delight. An initiative of the JBD, the course draws to an end this week. It has been a wonderful and often very emotional experience for many of us and we have become so fond of each other, and I certainly hope that new friendships will continue.

From Ramadan feasts to Pesach and Shabbat dinners, we have learnt more about each other, our traditions and customs, and enjoyed sharing our commonalities. We are looking forward to attending The Women of Faith Dinner together in July, and to hopefully meet up with each other for more events in the futureā€.

A cookbook is in the pipeline and ABC radio are producing a program of this story.

I am also trying to digest this incredible initiative.
    Let’s see what’s incredible about it :

    – that muslims are genuinely interested in establishing unconditional friendship with the Jews of Sydney
    – that all is needed is a stove, saucepan, salt, pepper, suggar, water and variety of other ingredients and all you have to say is ” yalla habibi ”
    – that a muslim community with a high degree of lack of popularity in Australia wants to take this oportunity to show that in ….”fact” they are as cool as, considering that the JEWS, no less, rub saucepans with them
    – that the JBD is doing the job no one else has managed to do, in spite of the web sites Shirlee mentioned were BDS only stands, no doubt, for Beans Dills and Suggar.( if only yourse knew what I really wanted to say !!)

how can I join the kitchen. I have a few recipes I want to try ….

I believe that you need to have done the JBD’s “Talking About Israel” course.
Please get in touch with Lynda Ben Menashe at the JBD for more information.
      Shabbat Shalom!

    Debbie

Some people have too much time on their hands.

    • Shirlee says:

Michael. some people need to have a look the Facebook pages of these people.
A couple of them support BDS amongst other questionable groups.

      • Elaine says:

Shirlee, your comment is deeply offensive and nothing could be further from the truth.

        • Shirlee says:

No you are the offensive one Elaine. Here you are involved with this multi-faith nonsense and then you are at Q Society meetings.

Make you mind up as to which side of the fence you are on.

  6. Michel says:

I, m sure chicken soup and kraplach. Would. Be
Tolerated really well in Lakenba .

  7. Debbie says:

I am extremely skeptical of interfaith dialogue. In my opinion it is an opening for the Muslim community to promote dawah.
