I think male circumcision will inevitably end with time as it is the last physical ritual that has not yet been replaced by symbolic ritual.

But it needs to come from within the Jewish and Muslim communities not imposed from outside. Traditions change very slowly but they do change.

  1. Simon says:

The fight against circumcision seems to rise from similar motives to the fight against vaccination, i.e. eagerness to be trendy and sheer ignorance. As recent University studies consistently show that circumcision is both harmless and beneficial. Eminent medical experts such as Sydney Uni professor Brian Morris and Dr Wodak explained:
“Circumcision of males is now referred to by many as surgical vaccine against a wide variety of infections and adverse medical conditions over the lifetime.” So Ruth Barnett’s opinion seems to be no more sound than that of the anti-vaccination advocates.

  2. Liat Nagar says:

Current medical research shows that circumcision of boys is a preventative measure for contracting HIV. Perhaps there are other issues to consider here.
