Christchurch – Missing Israelis Found Dead

Search and recover teams in Christchurch have found the bodies of two Israeli backpackers who had been in Christchurch last Tuesday when the earthquake it the South Island New Zealand city.

Ofer Levy and Gaby Ingel - perished in Christchurch

Teddy Poplinger, the Israeli Consul in New Zealand who is on the ground in Christchurch has confirmed to J-Wire that Ofer Levy and Gabby Ingle, both 22 and both from Rehovot, have been found dead and have been positively identified. Arrangements will be made to send the bodies to Israel for burial.

A spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Wellington told J-Wire: “We are still looking for two unaccounted for Israelis. One was last seen in Napier and the other at an organic farm near Christchurch. They have not reported back to their families.”

He also confirmed that Israeli ID teams had been in Christchurch for three days but are now on standby ready to help it required to do so by the authorities.
