Cemetery consecrated
The Jewish section at the Frederickton Cemetery in the NSW country town of Kempsey has been officially consecrated.
The ceremony was performed in the presence of an 88-yr-old Auschwitz survivor who lives in the region and who had registered as enquiry with the local council as to the whereabouts of a Jewish cemetery in Northern NSW.
The Jewish section at the cemetery was created due to future needs earmarked by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies in line with current demographics and information gleaned from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Data points to a growing Jewish presence in NSW north of Newcastle to the Queensland border.
