“This approval throws yet another obstacle across the path to peace,” Senator Carr said.

“It comes just two weeks after Israel’s previous announcement on settlement expansion.

“Continuing to approve expansion of settlements in East Jerusalem is especially provocative.

“If construction of these 1,500 units proceeds it will make a negotiated two-state solution even harder to achieve. And without such a solution, there can be no prospect of durable security for Israelis or Palestinians.

“I urge the Israeli Government to reconsider this decision and to refrain from further settlement activity.”

I am not disappointed in Bob Carr because my contempt for this guy has been as deep as my expectations have been low ever since I saw what he has done to N.S.W. as premier.

However, until recently I gave him the benefit of the doubt, thinking that he might be simply naive, incompetent and/or ignorant. However now I will follow the advice of the Jewish-American talk-show host, Barry Farber, to said:

When the consequences of incompetence become indistinguishable from the consequences of malice, it is wiser and safer to assume malice.

    • Otto Waldmann says:

Beautifully put, Rita. I could only add that , when incompetence is wedded to vanity from the family of thirst for power, the progenies can only be the blind and dumb twins of malice and selfishness.

  2. Henry says:

Australians “disappointed” about Carr. Need I say more?

  3. Shirlee. says:

Let’s hope his minders are reporting back to hm. Though I doubt It’ll have any effect.

  4. Liat Nagar says:

Do we really have to suffer the picture of Bob Carr every time we read what he has to say? It makes the experience even more excruciating, for his face ‘speaks’ to us as well. Boring, boring, Bob … your expression of disappointment is neither here nor there and the words to follow in effect say nothing.
A truly terrible choice as Foreign Minister for the Australian Government and fast becoming an embarrassment, with or without the Middle East issue.

The face that (possibly) launched a 1000 (more) rockets (onto Israel).

  5. Michael says:

I wish to express my disappointment at BoB Carrs disappointment.

  6. Stan says:

Bob Carr just doesn’t get it. As my grandmother used to say, he can “gey cacken offen yom.”
He doesn’t have the intellect to understand what’s happening in the Middle East. He should confine his comments to Australia.

  7. David says:

The disappointment is more than mutual with this absolute failure of a foreign minister. The sooner this arab loving politician makes an undignified exit the better for Australia and Israel.

  8. Paul says:

Disappointed, are we, Bobby baby? A good many of us have been disappointed with you ever since you gave the Sydney (so-called) Peace Prize the notoriuos war monger, Hanan Ashrawi.

You have a damned cheek to criticise Israel for building in their own capital. You demostrate your hypocrisy, once again, for saying nothing about the local Arab’s violation of the Oslo Accords.

You and all the other “experts” demand that Israel should do nothing other than to cave in to any demand that their enemy makes. Those demands are cynically depraved when you bear in mind that concessions have only led to increased demands without even the acceptance of Israel as the state of the Jewish people by the Arabs. You demand peace and a two state solution when the Arabs are rejecting that as Hamas’ terror war and the PA’s UN actions. And as Arafat’s terror war and abu Mazen’s rejection of Olmert’s offer show. And as the refusal of abu Mazen to negotiate unless Israel accepts all of his demands shows.

Your demands, Bobby baby, like the identical demands of those like you, are utterly contemptible. Do Australia a favour; resume your retirement earlier than the electorate retires your government.

  9. Lynne Newington says:

Unfortunately today’s enemies become tomorrows bedmates.
    That’s politics.

  10. Shirlee. says:

    Oh dear!!

So Carr is “disappointed” about settlements

Well Bob, I’m disappointed with you in general.

  11. Otto Waldmann says:

And what if Mr. Factotum is right and Israel stops all settlement building !!
How long will, then, peace between the wonderful, impeccable palestinians and Israel become a tangible fact.
Let’s see if our Bob Carr is right, because firm in objecting unilaterally to whatever Israel does this friend of the Jewish community most definitely seems to be at each and every turn.
    Let’s try his alternative .

    ( HAS VSHOLEM !!! ) G-D FORBID !!!
