Bob Carr said: “The Bulgarian Government has today provided an update on its investigation into the bombing of an Israeli tourist bus at Burgas Airport on July 18, 2012, in which seven people were killed.

The Bulgarian Government has indicated that one person of interest in the matter may be an Australian passport holder and that there is a ‘justified assumption’ that two of the people involved belong to the military wing of the terrorist group Hezbollah.

The Australian Government has listed the Hezbollah External Security Organisation as a terrorist group since 2003. Support for or membership of this Organisation is an offence under Australian law.

The Australian Federal Police has worked with Bulgarian authorities in pursuit of those responsible for the bombing.

All Australians would be proud that the AFP has played an important role in this investigation to date.

Australia continues to be a key player in regional and global efforts to identify and prevent terrorist operations.

The Australian Government condemns all acts of political violence and terrorism and welcomes today’s evidence of progress in this investigation.

Such attacks on innocent civilians are reprehensible in the extreme.

Our thoughts remain with the friends and families of those killed in the attack, with the injured, and with the people of Israel and Bulgaria.”

The newly-appointed Minister for Immigration and Citizenship Brendan O’Connor told ABC this morning that he could not disclose whether or not Australia knew the man’s identity. The man is understood to have resided in Lebanon since 2006.

Such ‘spin’ it is … please, Bob Carr, give us a break with the pompous niceties (and pats on the back to Australia for its wonderful efforts in assisting the chasing of the terrorists). Say it how it is for once.

  2. Michael says:

Phill don’t hold your breathe that Mr Dreyfus will do that, as I said he will go out of his way to reassure his labor followers as a Jewish AG he will not favor those pesky Zionists..

If only Pyne was our AG…ah dreaming….

  3. Otto Waldmann says:

What is really expected from Bob Carr is an increase of the already modest NINETY MILLION DOLLAR Australian financial aid to the palestinians – who are in Carr’s view and ommissions completely distinct from Hamas and Hizbollah – in order to improve their state of criminal minds, Australian Labor politicians still call “education”.

  4. Paul says:

Anythings possible Pinco. I’m sure Mossad didn’t get caught with all their fake Australian “passports’

  5. Pinco says:

Before we should see if that Australian passport is REALLY Australian or a Mossad one.

In the past (Dubai killing) we have shown the world to have the means to clone Australian passports in a way that is impossible to distinguish them from the original.

    Hey Bob,

What will you be doing on the 15th of September………..job hunting I assume.

  7. Paul Winter says:

It is so good to learn that the Hezbollah External Security Organisation is listed as a terrorist organisation in Australia and membership to it is proscribed. It would appear that the other branch of Hizballah (Party of God, would you believe !!), which does charitable work, is kosher. Except that the differentiation is a meaningless farce, because all branches belong to the same party, headed by the same servants of Allah and Iran. And where Carr is being backward about coming forward is in taking the Lebanese government to task for the terrorist who participated in the massacre in Bulgaria, because that same pious party is a member of the Lebanese government. Ah, spin is so much easier than principled action.

  8. phil says:

Australia’s new Attorney general Mark Dreyfus should declare that hezballah is a terrorist organisation- and support of these terrorist should be a crime in Australia.

    • Shirlee says:

Hezbollah IS designated terrorist organisation by Australia.

The military arm of Hamas is, but the political arm isn’t
