Camp Sababa at Shalom
Shalom Institute President Jonathan Leib and JCA President Peter Philippsohn extended a warm welcome to Camp Sababa at Shalom College.

At a ribbon cutting for the newly installed Access Lift, Jonathan Leib thanked the JCA for its assistance. “We are grateful to the JCA for their support in upgrading the college’s facilities to accommodate Sababa campers with disabilities”. The new access lift will also make other programs run at The Shalom Institute more accessible to members of our community who may have not been able to attend to date.
The Shalom Institute strives to increase the vibrancy and engagement of the Sydney Jewish community in a pluralistic way. This should not be inhibited by age, religious or political affiliation, financial constraints or any other limitations.
“We are delighted to welcome the campers, companions and staff of Camp Sababa to Shalom College for their annual camp. Engaging with all parts of the Jewish Community is a core part of the mission of The Shalom Institute”, Leib continued.
Shalom College is proud to have been able to assist in hosting this wonderful camp which offers respite to parents at the same time as offering children with disabilities a wonderful holiday which is fun-filled, active and with a Jewish flavour. The camp runs for 4 days and 3 nights with an aim of closing the gap between people with and without disabilities by introducing people in the community to disability care in a fun, enjoyable environment, while providing much-needed respite to parents and caregivers. It is also a wonderful opportunity for youth to volunteer as companions, sleeping overnight where necessary, and working hard, giving of themselves and feeling rewarded in a very meaningful way.
