A coalition of 35 community leaders met at NSW Parliament House this week to issue a statement calling on the State Government to overhaul the state’s race-hate legislation.

The group represented 20 community organisations, including the Armenian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Philippine, Indian, Hindu, Assyrian, Greek, Korean, Kurd, Coptic, South Sea Islanders, Pacific communities, the NSW Council of Christians and Jews, and the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.

Keep NSW Safe spokesperson and NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff is urging members of the Jewish community to:

  1. Go to the www.keepnswsafe.comwebsite and SEND a letter to your State MP
  1. LIKE the Keep NSW Safe Facebook page and share on your social networks
  1. Encourage family and friends to sign the letter and like the Facebook page

“All you have to do to send a letter is type in your name and postcode, and a letter will automatically be sent,” Alhadeff sent.  “This is an issue of vital importance for our community and for every resident of NSW. And time is of the essence. There can be no excuse for not acting now. The state government must act to preserve our peaceful way of life by changing the law to protect communities from the promotion of violence. It has been proven time and again that the current law is ineffective.”

Can someone advise is it the Jewish community that is erecting bomb proof walls around schools and soon community centre in Melbourne , Is it the Jewish community that has had to upgrade security outside schools to include armed Guards or is it the Muslim Community ? I’m not Sure ?

  2. David Singer says:

It does not appear that the Islamic Council of NSW has signed the statement.

Can someone clarify if this is correct? if so why not?

    • Eleonora Mostert says:

Oops Mr. Singer, that’s because there is no such thing as a “Peace Loving Muslim”!
Muslims do not have to be … Tolerant or show respect or live harmoniously with all others. Nor will they be held responsible or accountable for any crimes they commit. Neither Jew nor Gentile is safe from Muslims. Just ask the NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Upton who considers terrorism “FRIVOLOUS”. Why would they sign the statement!
