Busy Holocaust schedule for Sydney

Six Holocaust ceremonies will be held in Sydney on Sunday and Monday, organized by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies’ Holocaust Remembrance Committee.

Two of them are designed for youth who will celebrate their bar/bat mitzvah this year.

·         On Sunday April 11 at 10.30am a ceremony will be held at the Martyrs Memorial, Rookwood. The keynote speaker will be ECAJ President Robert Goot A.M.

·         On Sunday April 11 at 1pm, the name-reading ceremony Unto Every Person There Is A Name will be held at the Sydney Jewish Museum. Organized in conjunction with the museum, the ceremony comprises the reading of lists of names of people who perished in the Holocaust. A feature this year will be the participation of about 15 consuls-general (see below).

·         On Sunday April 11 at 7.15pm, a Mitzvah of Memory program will be held at Moriah College for bar/bat mitzvah aged youth, as an introduction to the Holocaust

·         On Sunday evening April 11 at 7.30pm, a ceremony will be held in the Triguboff Auditorium, Moriah College. The keynote speaker will be Israeli Chief of Mission Eli Yerushalmi.

·         On Monday evening April 12 at 7.15pm, a Mitzvah of Memory program will be held at Masada College for north shore bar/bat mitzvah aged youth, as an introduction to the Holocaust

·         On Monday evening April 12 at 7.30pm, a north shore ceremony will be held in the Pelerman Centre, Masada College. The keynote speaker will be NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff, who will focus on Greeks and Turks who defied the Nazis and saved Jews during the Holocaust.
