A number of Sydney’s Emanuel School’s Music and Drama students were recently nominated for two prestigious events.

HSC drama students Tamar Hoffman, Dalia Gencher, Hannah Lee, Sam Nathan, Deena Metz and Amy Shapiro performing in In a land not so far far away.

The School’s HSC Drama class of 2012 was nominated for the Board of Studies NSW and the Department of Education and Communities’ OnSTAGE, a showcase of HSC exemplar drama performances.

The Group’s self-devised piece entitled In a land not so far far away, explores the notion of fairy tales and the blurred perception they create of our reality. The story follows five Disney Princesses and their Prince Charming on a journey of self-discovery. They enter therapy to try and rid themselves of the stresses and pressures they have suffered in the desire to achieve perfection. However, the harsh realities of a not-so-perfect world leave the audience wondering if there really is such a thing as a ‘happily ever after’.

Two Emanuel HSC Music students, Ashley America and Anna Giacco, were nominated for ENCORE. ENCORE, a program of outstanding performances and compositions by students from the HSC Music examinations, is also presented by the Board of Studies NSW and the Department of Education and Communities.

Ashley completed Music 2 and Music Extension, majoring in vocal performance. A promising solo and choral singer, Ashley presented a challenging performance program, confidently performing repertoire from five centuries and four languages. Anna, on clarinet, completed the Music 1 course, again majoring in performance. Anna’s HSC repertoire demonstrated exceptional technical and expressive abilities. Her renditions of music as diverse as Mozart and the Klezmer-inspired Monti Csardas highlighted what is an outstanding talent.

Emanuel School Principal, Anne Hastings, said, “I am so proud of the students and the hard work they invested in preparing for their performances. These nominations are testament to their depth of talent and passion for the Arts. I wish them every success as they work towards completing their written examinations.”
