More than 200 drawn from pupils, staff and parents breakfasted at the school this morning and listened to the story of one woman’s battle against the disease. 48-yr-old Pauline Don told the breakfasters that she had been so badly affected by the disease that she could barely walk to the end of her street.

Pauline Don said the she persisted with her training and eventually reached the point at which she could compete in a half marathon. She has now been clear of the disease for 15 years.

A spokesperson for the school told J-Wire: “What started off as an idea by the girls on our high school leadership team for a small event in the canteen area has now grown to be a function for over 200 people with a raffle, speaker and musical items  in the school gymnasium – we are very excited that it has grown so big. It is aimed  at the High School girls and the female members of their family as well as female members of staff.”

The funds raised will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
