The Emet Israel Programme took an unprecedented number of students – 39 – to Israel, from Sydney, Melbourne, Noosa and Wollongong and we hope to increase the numbers this year.  Our Years 5 & 6 Hebrew students from Rose Bay Public School once again won the Linguafest competition for their Hebrew film.  One of our long-serving teachers, Rachelle Lever, received an award for innovation in SRE from Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli.   Ciel Gilies-Manor from St Ives North Public School received the Minister’s Award for excellence in student achievement in Hebrew, whilst Eva Nabarro from South Coogee and Jonah Trope from Rose Bay Public Schools were both awarded certificates.  Killara High School Hebrew students, Odelyah Di Veroli received bands 6 in their HSC

2015 will be a very exciting year for BJE. We are continuing to develop and expand our high school programme with the appointment of Helen Helfenbaum, who will work alongside Ari Turkia as Co-High School Coordinator, to expand our programmes and continue to make them fun and exciting, as well as informative and educational, so that students can meet in relaxed environments and can explore and connect to their Jewish culture and heritage.  In addition to our camps, BJE will be holding lunch-time clubs, coffee hours, movie nights, leadership seminars, charity and social work activities, just to name a few.

BJE will also be expanding our Project Heritage Programme to include learning about their own family’s history as well as learn about other holocaust survivors’ stories.
