“Too many to count” said a spekesperson for the school. “The idea has been a huge success”

To celebrate Fathers Day, the Parents and Friends of Emanuel School always run stall from which children can buy gifts for their dads. The gifts are always eco friendly – this year they include kippot made by Zimbabwean woman, cards painted by African girls suffering with AIDS, recycled paper gifts from Bangladesh, and many herbal soaps from an Australian Herbal Farm.

The school has also announced winning two United Nations Mock Security Council Competitions

In recent times, Emanuel School has had some very pleasing success in the field of United Nations Mock Security Council.

Jonty Katz and Anthony Small

Eight students travelled to Macquarie University recently and represented countries such as China, Uganda and South Africa. The Best Delegate on the day was Anthony Small (Year 11) and Honourable Mentions went to Sam Koslowski and Jonty Katz (both Year 10). All students participated well and improved their skills and knowledge.

The United Nations Youth Association also holds a competition and the State Final was held at NSW Parliament House earlier this month. Anthony Small and Jonty Katz represented Mexico and debated on Amendments and proposed resolutions in the areas of mining in Africa, penalties for international drug dealers and whether Kazakhstan should be a sovereign nation. Both argued very well and their teamwork, negotiation, research skills and polished contributions to the table made them the State Champions on the day. They will travel to Canberra in December with delegates from all over the nation in order to participate in a week long residential.

The schools is also gearing up for Rosh Hashana. The spokesperson told J-Wire: ” The Shofar Factory visited the Primary School recently and its pupils helped make shofars. We have a Shofar Club which meets weekly to practice blowing the shofar and to learn its significance within our religion. The Emanuel School will host Mount Sinai, and public schools at a Rosh Hashanah programme of events next week.
