Awards for Melbourne’s Jewish Care workers

Jewish Care Victoria has honored its staff and volunteers at their 2nd Annual Staff and Volunteers Service and Excellence Awards ceremony, held recently in Melbourne.

Bill Appleby, CEO, started the function at on March 21st at the Carousel, in Albert Park.  with a heartfelt thank you to those individuals who continue to lead, serve and show true commitment to make a difference to the lives of many in the Victorian Jewish community.

Appleby highlighted two main factors that contribute to the success of
Jewish Care’s mission and purpose: Service and Excellence. The night was dedicated to “the celebration of the contributions of the remarkable staff and volunteers who demonstrate the resilience, and the capacity to change over a sustained period of time, as the organisation continues to redefine itself to meet the changing needs of our community.”

Keynote speaker, Louise Sauvage OAM – Australian gold medallist Olympian and Paralympian – shared her inspirational journey of becoming a true champion and world-class wheelchair athlete, despite the physical challenges she faced.  She emphasised how a positive attitude and sheer determination can help one achieve excellence and fulfil their goals.

With this in mind, the Service and Excellence Awards were presented to seven truly deserving staff members and volunteers who lead by example and who exemplify the values of Jewish Care, namely Kindness, Family, Respect and Charity.

Recognition Award recipients for 2012:

President’s Award – Emma Boyar; The Samuel H. Harris Award – Anca Ardelean; CEO Customer Service Award –Joint recipients: Marilyn Lovitt and Martin Zerafa;  Ethos Award – Joint recipients:  Alma Basic and Darren Kovacs and
Volunteer of the Year – Henri Korn.

Long Service Awards were presented to those committed individuals who have been with Jewish Care from five to thirty five years.
